Allies' Pact is a Trickery Card. It is drawn from the Trickery Deck and may only be played on an enemy Hero. When burned in combat, it always produces a Shield die.

Pact: +1 Prestige per turn.

There are no allies on the path to success, only enemies yet to show their hand.

Allies' Pact can have a huge impact in the Prestige battle if it lasts. Choose your target carefully:

  • Ideally, your target should be hard to kill, with good Body and armor
  • They should have less Prestige than you, or at least less prospects of gaining it than you - you want to stay ahead of them so that you get the benefit of choosing the King's Declarations, and ultimately winning if it comes down to that.
  • Try to play it when the start of your turn is nearer than the start of their turn so that you get the bonus first.

The rival you play this to has a powerful incentive to keep you alive, and vice versa, so they will very much be your allies. However, this is also a complex relationship, as you and your target will also probably be the top Prestige contenders - you'll need to compete with your target, ideally without killing them. That being said, once you've built up enough of a lead over the non-participants in the pact, you may want to kill your target to get a leg up on them on Prestige anyway (and beware that they may be thinking the same thing!)

If you're the lucky recipient of this, the same considerations apply, except you probably weren't thinking of going for a Prestige win before. You probably should now.

If two other players get into an Allies' Pact, you will probably fall out of the running for the Prestige lead quickly unless you kill one of the participants quickly, so you should be looking out for an opportunity to do just that. If the pact goes on long enough, you should plan on winning a different way.
